Recognised by UNESCO Commission
The Swiss Commission for UNESCO has recognised the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Sustainable Development in Architecture project as an activity of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
In autumn 2009, 22 Chinese students began the first Master of Advanced Studies in Sustainable Development in Architecture course at the Bern University of Applied Sciences for Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering in Burgdorf. We are pleased to report that this course has now been recognised by the Swiss Commission for UNESCO as an activity of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). The United Nations announced the DESD, running from 2005 to 2014, on 20 December 2002 and appointed UNESCO as the lead agency. Almost 30 projects have since been recognised in Switzerland.
This recognition underscores our University’s commitment to promoting sustainability and quality development. Sustainable development combines economic progress with social fairness and the protection of the natural environment. We are especially pleased that our efforts to assume responsibility in this area have now been recognised at an international level.
