The shape of our environment is in the hands of our architects. They take on the formative, technical, economic, ecological and social planning of buildings.

Architecture – an indicator of our culture

Mission Statement

Prof. Daniel Boermann,
dipl. Arch. ETH SIA,
Head of division Bachelor Architecture

The planning and real estate industry is in a progressive changeover from commercial local structures to a heterogeneous market in which global investors, companies which operate throughout the world and top international architects are playing a forever increasingly important role.
That is why we train architects who can play an active part in the profession's process of change and can handle the large number of everyday tasks with a high degree of creative, technical and organisational ability.
We offer something unique in Switzerland, three clearly defined areas of specialisation, namely design, management and technology. This way we promote individual specialisation and profiling of our students and increased opportunities in the market place.

Facts and Figures

Change of the times

In 2003 the three established architectural divisions of HTA Bern, HTA Burgdorf and HTA Biel in the canton of Berne were incorporated with the SH Wood Biel into the Department of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. With the incorporation of the architectural divisions the content and emphases changed and so led to fundamental modernisation in the study of architecture. In 2005 the Bologna process was implemented. Because of the very early specialisation in the first term, the BA in Architecture course in Burgdorf is unique among courses at Swiss universities.
